Starting Gate New Play Festival is seeking Mid-Missouri playwrights for the 2024 Festival. This writer-centered festival provides development opportunities for playwrights. Participants will write two new 10-minute plays based on a prompt, engage in two workshops, and have their plays performed in a fully-staged production.

The festival is open to new, emerging, and established playwrights. We are particularly interested in diverse and underrepresented voices. Three playwrights will be selected, and winners will be announced in early May.

​

Our festival is unique in that the plays are workshopped in July and September, cast in October, and then presented in November. Playwrights are expected to attend both workshops, some rehearsals, and the performances, which will be November 8-10th.
